In November of 2021, then 34-year-old rapper Rakim Meyers, commonly known as A$AP Rocky, allegedly attempted to shoot former friend Terell Ephron, also known as A$AP Relli, with a semiautomatic firearm near a hotel in Hollywood, California.
After numerous delays, the trial began on Jan. 24 in Los Angeles, California.
In their opening statements, the prosecuting team claimed that Meyers had staged the murder of his former friend, in which the attempt was unsuccessful.
Reports say that if convicted of this felony, Meyers could face up to 24 years of prison time.
When asked for his reasons for requesting police protection, Ephron stated that he simply wanted “protection from Rakim” and never wanted money from Meyers as a result of the trial.
On Jan. 29, Meyers’s partner of four years, Robin Rihanna Fenty, made her first appearance in the LA courtroom. When asked about her opinions on the situation, Fenty refused to answer, stating that she’s “good” and doesn’t want to be asked about the case.
The days that followed Jan. 29’s trial were stagnant.
Both the defence and prosecuting teams reiterated previous points and provided evidence to support both perspectives, as the prosecution team brought clear-cut security camera footage of the altercation between Meyers and Ehphron to the trial.
This footage originally surfaced in November of 2023.
On day six of the trial, on Feb. 3, in response to the use of the footage as evidence by the prosecuting team, the defense team stated that the firearm displayed in the footage was “fake.”
Later, the first witness was brought in by the prosecuting team. This witness further pushed the accusation that Meyers shot at Ephron. He then accused the defense team of “being annoying” during the trial.
After numerous delays and several controversial days inside this courtroom in LA, the A$AP Rocky weapon assault trial is officially underway, and things are beginning to truly heat up.
