MCHS’s boys swimming season starts on Nov. 24 at the Upper Campus pool.
Meets against the other Fox Valley Conference schools went well, as the McHenry boys swim team won half of their dual meets against the other schools.
“My biggest focus this season is getting the boys motivated to push hard and work hard and maybe get some more kids to go to State,” assistant swim coach and ISS instructional assistant Becky MacDonald says.
One of the most common events for MCHS swimmers to make State for is the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle. Freestyle is my most common type of swim stroke. The time required to go to state for the 50 freestyle is 21.73 seconds, and for the 100 free is 47.53 seconds.
“Something I am most excited for this upcoming swim season is being able to be in the water with people,” senior varsity swimmer Wyatt Kochan says. “I know and am friends with and have a lot of fun this year, especially it being my last year.”
Last year, Robbie Rosenbaum, a freshman at the time, competed at state and placed second place in the 100 free.
“I think it will be a good season. Last year Robbie was really good,” Kochan says, “and I think he’s going to work harder this year after coming 2nd place at state.”
The last time a kid from the boys swim team made it to state was Kevin Braun who in 2016, placed fourth in two different events being the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle. Kevin holds the school record for the 50 freestyle being 21.05 seconds and the 100 freestyle being 46.24 seconds.
“I’m really looking forward to this season, I think everyone will do great,” second-year swimmer junior Andrew Costello says. “Last year we had a state swimmer, so if he comes back, I think the morale will be high across the whole team.”
Sectionals are on Feb. 22, and the state finals are held on Feb. 27-28, 2026.
