Suzanne Collins’ book “Sunrise on the Reaping,” which is a prequel story in the “Hunger Games” series, is set to be adapted into a movie that will come out on Nov. 20, 2026.
With the book coming out a little over a month ago, fans are already sharing their thoughts and input on who the cast should be made up of. As of right now, only the actors who will be playing key characters have been announced by the creators of the film.
Joseph Zada will play the role of Haymitch Abernathy, Whitney Peak will play the role of Lenore Dove Baird, McKenna Grace will play the role of Maysilee Donner and Jesse Plemmons will be playing Plutarch Heavensbee.
Fans have high hopes for the rest of the cast to be announced, and have picked a variety of famous actors to fill prominent roles in the film.
“I’m just anticipating the casting of Effie Trinket,” says junior Hazul Alacantra Diaz. “I just really hope it ends up being Elle Fanning – she’d be perfect for the role.”
Many fans who had anticipated “Sunrise on the Reaping” really paid attention to the snippet of Haymitch’s games in “Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” and some went as far as to make a fan-based film. The film has over 10 million views and accurately depicts what was mentioned in “Catching Fire.” With Haymitch’s full story coming to light though, fans are even more excited to see it on the big screen.
“I remember watching that fan film,” says Alacantra, “and I thought it was pretty cool. And now that we’re gonna get a full length movie, obviously it’s gonna be a great production.”
As fans await the upcoming film, they tend to wonder even more what Collins has in store after that.
