Course selection is taking place this week at MCHS. Students will log in to PowerSchool and choose the elective courses that they wish to take, as their required courses have already been chosen by their teachers.
Course selection opens starting on Monday Jan 13, and goes through next Monday.
“Current freshmen, sophomores and juniors will first review their placements in the core areas such as English, math, science and social science, to make sure that they’re ok with them,” says Curtis Menke, College and Career counselor.
If students aren’t content with their placements in core classes, they will need to get their parent or guardian to fill out a course drop form.
“Students have until Jan 31 to get one of these forms filled out, and then they’ll be able to either drop or change the level of the course,” says Kaitlyn Schak, junior counselor.
Course selection is taking place through PowerSchool starting this year, so the process is a little different.
Students will go to the “Class Registration” tab and select their elective courses for the year. Then, they’ll be able to review the courses that they’ve already been placed in. From there, they can decide to fill out the level change form or not.
There are some new courses as of this year, as well as some that have had additional levels added.
“There’s a new Speech course this year,” says Schak.
The social science department is offering a one semester criminal justice course, which will be a follow up to Youth and Law as the prerequisite. Youth and Law will now also be offered at the Freshman Campus and not just the Upper Campus according to Menke.
