On a dark Monday night, an MCHS student finally arrives home at 8:36 p.m. after their JV football game away at Burlington. Realizing they still have some homework to finish up, they realize they’re running low on time. They think, ‘I still need to eat.’ To save some time, they order some food on Uber Eats with their High School Nation promotion.
MCHS has partnered with High School Nation and Uber to hook students and staff up with free Uber and UberEats perks just for being a student at MCHS. There’s $120 in free rides and then $100 in free food to redeem. This offer expires October 14 and once activated, the promo lasts for 30 days.
“Every student deserves to be able to go to after school activities and have a ride home, so maybe that’s a way that kids can use it, or if they get late home from practice or something, they can order Uber Eats and get some food right,” Director of Student Activities, Mitchell Stengel says. “To me, it’s all about students being able to have food and have accessibility, and have rides home.”
This opportunity for students is unheard of in the past, perks like this have been awarded to students with a certain GPA or meet a certain attendance criteria, whereas this is for all MCHS students.
“[Last year] we did a five dollar Dunkin’ Donuts gift card for every kid if they met a certain attendance criteria,” Stengel says. “I reached out to a couple different people that I know that work in the nonprofit world, and essentially they decided that we are partnering with Uber. So they reached out to Uber on behalf of me to get this deal.”
Students are excited for this promo because it’s so generous and convenient.
“One of the things I spend the most money on is food,” junior Finn Stecker says, “so this opportunity is really nice.”
For students who don’t have their license, a car or maybe don’t have licensed family members at home to get around town, this could be a great chance for them to have that access for free.
“Well, most of my friends have their licenses, but I don’t,” junior Bianca Mangalindan says. “So if I need to go to the store because I need to get supplies for my projects, or anything really, I would use this offer.”
While still given this opportunity students still aren’t able to order food to the school building.
For students who are having issues redeeming their promotion, Stengel advises everyone to make sure they have followed their instructions he sent out over email, and if you’re still having issues, to contact Uber support.
As the students’ food arrives at 8:57 p.m. they bring it back to their kitchen and indulge on their Panda Express. They swallow, and then take a sigh of relief as they think about how much time this has saved them.
