As the weather’s getting colder and leaves are falling and changing colors, people are getting cozy at home ready for a movie night. A mix of romcoms, sports movies and, of course, a horror movie.
Fall movies are one of the few categories that have many sub-categories that are left up the opinions of people for themselves. The well known groups being horrors, romcoms and sports.
“If I think about fall movies,” Kayleigh Jensen, full time building sub at MCHS says, “the two major categories are, the romcoms that are based during fall and then, anything in the spooky genre. I think a fall movie is more about the setting, not totally the content.”
Depending on people’s preferences, they usually have certain genres they lean toward. Some people will always be more drawn to romcoms, others horror films and some people will pick a sports movie in between the real games that are being played.
“I always feel good watching football movies during fall,” says Hunter Weisenberger, Junior at MCHS.
Being drawn to a certain genre is usually based on people’s lifestyle. People who are sports fans, and follow their favorite teams all throughout the season are drawn to football movies like, “The Blind Side.” People who like keeping things lowkey but like to have little pick me ups during movie night lean towards the romcoms like, “Practical Magic.”
Ones who are drawn to mysteries, criminal history and true crime are drawn to horrors, especially ones based off of true stories like, “Psycho.”
“I usually like a cozy romance of some sort,” Kathryn Frey, a social studies teacher at MCHS says, “So either, ‘When Harry met Sally,’ or, ‘She’s got Mail.’”
Fall movies, a huge genre with sub-categories, but always something almost everyone looks forward to every year. Whether you’re getting cozy for a feel good movie or turning off the lights and bundling up to set the mood for a horror film, everyone can agree that fall has some of the best and nostalgic movies.
