Football games are always the highlight of the week, but most of the time fans only go to the more important varsity games on Fridays, leaving the stands for the freshman-sophmore and JV games almost completely empty.
Almost everyone has been to a high school football game, but a majority of people only go to varsity games on Fridays where the stands are completely filled, and not the JV and frosh games on Mondays and on Fridays right before the varsity games.
“A couple people show up for frosh but when it comes to varsity lots of people show up because they think it is more important than JV or FROSH A and B,” said Kaiden Ramirez.
While varsity is losing game after game, the frosh is leading McHenry football in wins, but there is still not much interest in their games.
“Varsity is 0-8 right now, but frosh is 4-5,” stated Ramirez. “If frosh wins this Friday it will be 5-5.”
Former MCHS football player, Kyle Ries, has noticed the difference in fans that show up for varsity compared to FROSH and JV. He feels that the younger teams deserve more recognition from the student section at the games.
Fans have also noticed the difference in wins between the two.
“People definitely know that frosh wins more, but varsity just has more appeal even though they don’t win much,” said Ries.
Varsity games have more appeal because they are regarded as the best, even though frosh is leading MCHS’s entire football division in wins. Most of the public interest is on the varsity team, which is currently on an eight game losing streak, tenth place in the FVC, and is listed at a zero percent overall winning percentage. Varsity has gotten 52 total points so far in the season. Even though varsity games do not turn out as hoped, it is still a fun experience.
