As the flag football players practice before their big regional game in the crisp fall air, they think about all of their success and their goals they have succeeded throughout the whole season, and how much they have accomplished together.
This is the first year MCHS has flag football as an opportunity for girls to join a school sport. The flag football team ended up being very successful this year with it being their first year offering it at MCHS school.
The flag football girls ended up making it to regionals this year for their first year. They ended up going 14-3 going into the regionals championship, but unfortunately losing their game to the Antioch flag football team.
The flag football team inspired many throughout the community shown by the fact that they are starting a new McHenry Junior Warriors flag football team to give younger girls new opportunities to learn the sport.
“It takes building a culture, something where kids know they’re gonna come in everyday, they’re gonna give 100%,” assistant flag coach Kyle Just said, “they’re gonna have fun at the same time.”
Even though the girls in flag football have a lot of fun playing their games and going to practices, they are held to a standard and the girls need to meet these standards for their team.
“They need to know that they’re gonna be held to a standard,” Just says, “and then the standard needs to be met by everybody.”
In flag football, in order for them to be successful the girls need to work as a team and not only as individuals.
“We’re all part of it together,” Just says, “we all got to move forward as one.”
The girls had a great season and MCHS is excited to see what they bring for next year.
