MCHS’s varsity football team went head to head against Hampshire High School Whip-Purs in the first football game of the season on Friday. The Warriors lost 34-0, but were able to keep their enthusiasm going all throughout the game. New head coach, Jeff Schroeder, was proud of how the team dealt with their loss.
The theme of the game was “warrior out.” Warrior Nation filled the stands in orange and black. The team wore their white jerseys with their new white helmets. This year the team has received new helmets after receiving new uniforms last season.
The team’s quarterback, Ethan Dietmeyer, was injured before half time, but the team stepped up and did the best they could without their starting quarterback.
“We’re a young team and our inexperience showed,” said Dietmeyer, a sophomore. “We had good moments though. We just need to build off of and improve in practice.”
The team plans to take what they have learned from the game and work on it during practice this week before their first home game on this Friday.
