As the first semester wraps up, MCHS’ December graduates are preparing to start their lives outside of high school and are planning for the future.
Graduating in December sounds like an amazing thing and it really is, you are getting a head start on your life, but it can also be a stressful and bittersweet thing. One day it’s the first day of school, and then the next it’s a week before you are supposed to graduate from high school and you have to say those goodbyes to all your favorite teachers and all the amazing people you have met.
“I feel accomplished graduating early, because I get a head start on college,” MCHS student Espe Herrera says, “regardless of this the moment is very bittersweet because I’ll miss being with my friends and enjoying the rest of my senior year.”
Early graduation doesn’t only affect the graduates but the underclassmen too.
“I’m honestly so proud and happy for my friends that get to graduate early, but i’m also gonna miss them so much. We have all made so many memories in the school together,” MCHS student Austin Ross says, “it’s going to be a very emotional day when they leave and a very weird adjustment without them.”
Being able to be a December graduate is kind of fast paced and sometimes there are some things you wish you knew before.
“I wish I knew that being a December graduate can be so stressful with having to get all your post secondary affairs prepared prior to graduating,” Herrera says.
Espe Herrera gives the next December graduates some advice to help them for when it’s their turn.
“My advice to future December graduates is to just enjoy the rest of their senior year as much as possible, and not to rush the rest of their high school experience, because it goes by fast,” Herrera says, “They should start deciding what they want to do sooner rather than later because being in school gives you resources to take post secondary actions and it’s harder to figure out on your own.”
Saying goodbye can be a hard thing but can also be good. These students are off to do great things after high school and have worked really hard to get where they are.
