On August 27, The McHenry community gathered to support and celebrate a group of veterans who were returning from the Honor Flight trip to Washington D.C. at the Upper Campus. The event was open to the public at 2 p.m. and the veterans showed up at 3 pm.
Before the veterans arrived, the varsity cheerleaders performed a short routine. Shortly after, the band performed and Surround Sound sang “Bridge Over The Troubled Water.”
Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, Carl Vallianatos, spoke where he thanked those who helped with setting up the event, as well as anyone who took photos.
“The people who ran it are just amazing,” said Lenny Vihnanek, one of the veterans at the event. “It touched my heart. I’m an emotional guy. I’ve shed a lot of tears these past four days due to how special they made us feel.”
