John couldn’t wait for the outdoor theater to open in McHenry. When he got the news that it was opening on March 21 he was so excited. He drove with his friends to go see the live action “Snow White.” They got popcorn and some other snacks and sat in the open trunk of John’s car and watched the show. They all had a great time, considering with the show, comes and experience.
On March 21 the Mchenry Outdoor Theater reopened for weekends and plans to fully open May 25 showing live action “Lilo and Stitch” followed by “Marvel Thunderbolts” for 21 days in a row.
Employee Marleigh Nicholas says, “Working at the outdoor theater is unique because there are not very many outdoor theaters left.”
There are only 21 drive-in theaters left in Illinois and only 336 left in the U.S.
Employee Grace Summers says, “It’s always fun when we have ‘Star Wars’ nights.”
Every year, the outdoor theater shows old “Star Wars” movies for a couple days in a row, this year being “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith” on April 25-26.
Employee Elijah Bremer says, “I think if we opened a little earlier it’d be a lot better because then we would get more cars.”
As of right now, the outdoor theater opens at 6 p.m. every Friday and Saturday.
Nicholas says, “Working there is a lot of fun and the people I work with are very kind. Even when it’s a slow day we still find stuff to do.”
The theater plans to bring back more fan favorites and bring in more customers to keep the public and employees happy and satisfied.
Bremer says, “It’s pretty fun working there. There’s a bunch of my classmates that work with me.”
Everyone is optimistic for the upcoming season. Paying for a show and a good time, you can never go wrong.
