Valentine’s Day was Friday, and students at MCHS celebrate in unique ways.
In years past, MCHS has done various ways of celebrating Valentine’s Day. At Freshman Campus, students could purchase “Crush” cans and send them to their crushes, friends or significant others. At Upper Campus, students could send flowers, cake pops and crush pops.
“We have done this for years,” Key Club Advisor, Emma Theel says. “We sell flowers for two dollars each and then students can write a little note to their significant other or friend. Then on Valentine’s Day we will deliver them to their morning classes.”
Along with Key Club, Warrior Chef also has its own way of celebrating Valentine’s Day.
“The cake pops we made in Warrior Chef are 1 for $2 or 2 for $3,” senior Samantha Andresen says. “We have worked on making these cakes all week, we started on Monday and went through Friday…We have been selling cake pop during lunch periods for a few years now, so we can bring in money for the school.”
Couples at MCHS share their personal ways of celebrating and share their opinions on how MCHS celebrates it. Senior couple, Samuel Maye and Kilynn Axelson share their thoughts as a couple who have spent two Valentine’s Days together.
“We decided this year that we’re gonna make handmade gifts,” Axelson says. “We decided to make something more personal to each other.”
“I think we should have a spirit week,” Maye says, “dress up like Cupid, wear red or dress up like a teddy bear.”
Couples spend their first Valentine’s Day together share how they feel. Sophomores Eva Smith and Harlan Alexander share their thoughts.
“It’s just like any other day of the week for us,” Alexander says. “I think they do enough here, maybe they could decorate the halls or something.”
Students and MCHS celebrate in diverse ways, whether that be by spending time and giving gifts to their loved ones, or by helping MCHS have more Valentine’s Day spirit.
