Juniors of MCHS file into the warrior room, they are welcomed with papers about an early ACT opportunity on every table. Then, College and Career Counselor, Curtis Menke, begins to go in depth about this test and what it means for juniors.
On Feb. 14, MCHS is hosting their annual early ACT opportunity for all juniors. It is not required, but students who want to seek improvement and get their best score possible, may join administrators in the warrior room for the test, incentivized by a Starbucks gift card provided by Black Diamond.
Though there are other benefits to taking the ACT more than once.
“The main reason why MCHS is hosting an early ACT is that we want to give students more chances to show their best self,” said Menke. “Whether that be for colleges, apprenticeship programs, scholarships or college placement.”
Having an opportunity like this is convenient for students who want to succeed along with comfort while test-taking.
“I really want to take the early ACT to have another chance to get a better score because it ends up contributing to my super score once I apply to colleges,” says junior Oliva Meyer.
Even if students take the February ACT, they are still required to take the one with the rest of their class in April.
“Statistically, people tend to do better when they take the test more than once,” Menke explains, “some schools will also superscore depending on the amount of times a student has taken it.”
“I think there are a lot of positives of early testing,” Meyer says. “It most likely will improve scores the next time around and I’m glad there’s an opportunity here at MCHS for that.”
While the registration has closed for the February ACT, be sure to take advantage of the time there is until the April ACT, which is required for all juniors at MCHS to take.
