NHS crowns this year’s Mr. McHenry
Five senior guys came together to revive the annual pageant and offer fun and laughs to the entire MCHS community

On Thursday, National Honors Society crowned senior Enrique Robles as Mr. McHenry after a night of dancing, singing and laughs.
Mr. McHenry is an annual event hosted by NHS. The event gives senior boys a chance to participate in a light-hearted pageant that features sportswear, a talent portion and a Q&A.
“It is an event where contestants can be themselves and show the community what they got,” says contestant Hunter Kirk.
Mr. McHenry is also a fundraising event for NHS. This year’s proceeds went towards two scholarships that the organization will award at the end of the year.
NHS President Avary Shrum reflects on her excitement for the event. “I was excited to see the crowd interact and get to experience the show for the first time.”
Though East Campus hosted the event in 2020 and 2021, Mr. McHenry has not taken place at West Campus since 2019 because of cancellations and COVID. This year’s event is the first Mr. McHenry that many students were able to attend.
Great shows start with a great crowd, but the Mr. McHenry competitors stole the show. Robles performed “Fly Me to the Moon” by Frank Sinatra in the talent section of the pageant.
“I thought it would be fun to put myself out there and sing,” he explains. “I don’t really sing but I’ve always wanted to so I decided to try it out.”
Robles was escorted by senior Alexis Schwartz, who he chose because they match each other’s energy.
“Enrique was hard working throughout every single practice,” says Schwartz, “and I felt a lot of unity between the guys, which made it really fun.”
As the winner of Mr. McHenry, Robles scored two prom tickets and lifelong memories.
