A senior sits in their class with only one week of school left with no motivation, and junior starts complaining about how they don’t want to do any work and call it “juniorits.” The seniors can only think they have no idea how I feel.
Throughout the school year as seniors finish up school it makes sense as they near the end that they will find a lack of motivation because they are almost done with high school and they think, “one missing assignment won’t hurt my grades.” This is a totally normal feeling.
On the other hand, juniors come to the end of the year with a whole year left of school and complain about junioritis because they have no motivation to do anything, but they still have another full year left of school and grades and gpa do in fact still matter and they have to take finals. Juniorits is just an excuse for juniors to not do work as seniors are losing motivation.
Although as seniors do reach the end the one thing that matters most is grades as everything will show up on their high school transcript, but that does not mean that they all the sudden have a burst of motivation to do work for a school they will be out of in one week.
Think of it like a job. Once one puts in their two weeks they still have to show up and do work, but the job can no longer hold them accountable. All they can do is give a bad reference. Everything in those last two weeks is done sloppily. This is the same thing with seniors in high school. They have put in their two weeks and they are forced to show up and do work. This is why motivation does not exist in seniors at the end of the year.
On the other hand, juniors complaining about juniorits is like saying they’re going to quit their job in a year’s time and they stop doing their work. In this scenario they can get fired from their job. In school they can still get punished which will affect how colleges see them. It does not make sense for a junior to complain about junioritis at the end of the year.
The senior explains this to the junior complaining and the junior understands and does their best to finish out the school year to best prepare themselves for their upcoming senior year.
