Drake, J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar are considered the “big three” of today’s generation of rap artists. However, in the last few months, the three have been butting heads

Drake performs during Lollapalooza Chile on March 18, 2023, in Santiago, Chile.

Three best friends walk down the hall together, one of whom listens to Drake, the other listens to J. Cole and the last one listens to Kendrick. When news came out that there was drama between the rappers, the three students became just as divided.

On Nov. 15 of 2023, Drake released his album “For All The Dogs” with the chart-topping track “First Person Shooter” featuring J. Cole. In the song, many allusions are made to Kendrick Lamar, claiming the combination of the three rappers is the “big three.” When Kendrick was featured on “Like That,” a Metro Boomin/Future collaboration, he loudly proclaimed “F*** the big three,” sparking a rivalry for the ages between not just two rappers, but two completely different factions of lyricists.

“Yes, I’m not rooting for any specific side,” said senior Heinz Becker. “But I am excited to see what music and bars come from it. J. Cole’s diss is the only one that I think has been ‘bad’ so far.”

On May 3, Drake released another diss on Kendrick called “Family Matters,” and ten minutes later, Kendrick released a new diss called “Meet the Grahams.” Many people thought that Kendrick won the battle.

People thought that Kendrick Lamar won the diss battle because Kendrick mentioned many “secrets” that Drake hasn’t really told anyone like for Drake has a secret daughter. Drake has also been called a pedophile during this beef.

“I prefer Kendrick due to his great flow and storytelling,” said Colin Chojnowski. “I think Kendrick is winning the debate due to the songs being much better and releasing more quality tracks.”

On May 5, Drake released another diss called “The Heart Part Six,” and as response to “Meet The Grahams” by Kendrick.

“I have listened to all of them because they are everywhere,” said Chojnowski, “but if I were to pick one, it would be euphoria.”

The song “Euphoria” is another diss that Kendrick made from a response “Taylor made” where all what Kendrick said in the song is where he would say “I hate the way you dress, I hate the way you talk” and such where Kendrick says stuff he doesn’t like about Drake.

Even though the Drake and Kendrick fans are still beefing, the J. Cole fan decided that it was too much for them. But when the days continue, the diss between the two students keeps getting deeper and same with the actual song writers.
