Holiday cookies are a staple in celebrating, and the Messenger has ranked the top 5 Christmas cookies for this Holiday season.

As we enter into the holiday season, it is a time filled with friends, family, and food. One of the best parts of the holidays are the desserts. Here are some great cookies to make this Holiday season.

From butter cookies to raspberry thumbprints, we each have a favorite holiday cookie that reminds us of happy memories from this season. There is nothing like freshly baked cookies during the cold winter to warm you up. Out of the most popular holiday cookies, here are our top five.

Although a more advanced recipe, the delicious jelly center of Raspberry Thumbprints is worth the struggle it takes to make. (Mackenzie Sroka)

5) Raspberry Thumbprints –

While these cookies are still quite delicious, they are slightly more difficult to make. Putting the raspberry jelly on before it went into the oven made it overflow and stick to the pan. They were super hard to get off of the pan, so for that I would recommend using less jelly than you think you need. Nevertheless, they were still delicious, so looking past the mess they made, I would still recommend them.

The Raspberry Thumbprints straight from the oven were warm and gooey, and the jelly melted in your mouth. Despite the fact that these cookies did not look the prettiest, they were scrumptious and had the perfect amount of sweetness with the raspberry jelly.

Butter cookies are plain and quite easy to bake, making them the perfect dessert for enjoying with a nice cup of hot cocoa. (Mackenzie Sroka)

4) Butter Cookies –

The butter cookies had a nice smooth consistency. They were very good and also extremely easy to make. I can see why these classic cookies are so popular during this time of year.

They could be easily made more festive with simple food coloring, Christmas colored sprinkles, or cookie cutters. These cookies are more crispy and share a consistency more like a biscuit. They are equally sweet and buttery, and they are the perfect quick make during this cookie season.

For a combination of savory and sweet, white chocolate macadamia nut cookies are a Christmastime staple. (Mackenzie Sroka)

3) White Chocolate Macadamia Nut –

The white chocolate macadamia nut cookies are the perfect sweet and salty mix. They would be good throughout the whole year, but are especially popular during the holiday season. These cookies are a little more crispy, and had a small crunch from the macadamia nut. But, do not let the macadamia nuts scare you off because they are chopped pretty finely so you can not really taste them. Similar to the butter cookies, they were not difficult to make, and following the recipe was easy.

Kitchen sink cookies, also known as Santa’s Trash, are simple to make and even simpler to customize the recipe. (Mackenzie Sroka)

2) Kitchen Sink Cookies –

Not only were these cookies super easy to make, but also super fun to make. They would be perfect to make with younger kids. There are a variety of things you can put in them, but we chose to do white and milk chocolate chips, pretzels, and M&Ms. They are customizable to what each person likes, which makes it the perfect holiday cookie.

The mix of pretzels and chocolate were a good sweet and salty mix, and they had good flavor. The recipe also made a lot of cookies, so there were plenty. They are not super festive, but can  be easily changed with some Christmas colors or peppermint flavored chocolate chips. But, they were one of my favorites because of how fun and colorful they looked.

Snickerdoodles are a timeless Christmas classic sure to bring a little sweetness to the holiday season. (Mackenzie Sroka)

1) Snickerdoodles –

My personal favorite holiday cookie was the snickerdoodles. These cookies would also be good to make with kids because they were the easiest ones to make, and you get to roll the dough in cinnamon sugar. The recipe surprisingly calls for cream of tartar, but it is mainly there to keep the sugar from crystallizing and to keep it chewy rather than crispy.

The snickerdoodles were extremely soft and light, which were perfect after eating many other cookies. They have a nice cinnamon sugar taste to them which makes them sweet. These cookies truly tasted like the holiday season.

If you are looking for a new favorite Christmas cookie, or just simply need something to do inside during this cold season, then these cookies are perfect for you. We not only got to enjoy eating all of these cookies, but we also had lots of fun while making them too. All five of these cookies were easy to bake and super delicious to eat.
