This past weekend RISE Up – a non-profit organization in McHenry, held a three day long festival from Sept. 12 to 14 at Peterson Park.
The RISE UP Foundation was filed by Wayne and Amber Jett in 2019 to provide funding for projects specifically focused on enhancing the quality of life for children and their families in McHenry.
This year the foundation’s biggest goal is creating inclusive spaces for all. RISE Up is making an effort to raise over four hundred thousand dollars towards the revitalization of a local park. The vision is to make it completely inclusive to individuals of all abilities so they can come together and build a stronger community.
“I had lots of fun,” says MCHS student Joliena Pham. “The food and energy was great and the performances were really good. Plus, it’s for a good cause.”
Around 10 artists performed like Old Dominion, Chris Young, Sublime with Rome and more.
Throughout the course of three days there was a positive turn up. Many different businesses sponsored or attended as vendors to support the foundation.
Popular supporters include Buddyz, Fork N Fry, Jexal’s and Rita’s.
“There were a variety of vendors that were all very kind and pleasant to their customers,” says MCHS student Kenadee Gurstung. “The performers were very interactive as well”
RISE stands for revitalize, invest, succeed and encourage which is RISE Ups main mission.
Donating, volunteering and simply spreading the word are the biggest ways people help support the cause of building a more inclusive community.
“This project will not only enhance the park’s facilities,” the RISE Up team says, “but also serve as a powerful symbol of our commitment to inclusivity and equality.”
