Throughout the 1990’s, The Chicago Bulls were the definition of basketball greatness. Led by Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and head coach Phil Jackson, the Bulls became a global phenomenon.
They won six NBA championships between 1991 and 1998. Jordan’s leadership and incredible instincts, Pippen’s impressive defense and the team having a winning mentality overall made The Chicago Bulls unstoppable. Going from iconic moments like Jordan’s, “Flu Game,” and, “The last shot,” where Jordan stole the ball from Karl Malons, dribbled up the court, and hit a 15 foot jumper over Bryon Russel with about five seconds remaining, to their record-breaking 72-win season in 1995-96. Setting a high standard of how good Chicago can be in basketball.
“I grew up in the 1990s when the Bulls were probably the greatest team of all time,” Robert Niemic, a teacher at MCHS says. “So I’ve been a Bulls fan since the 80’s, when they first had Michael Jordan and started growing with young players, and then in the 90’s, obviously they won six championships and it’s like you catch the fever.”
Once Micheal Jordan left, The Chicago Bulls had many other stars like Derrick Rose, Luol Deng and Joakim Noah. Derrick Rose brought plenty of excitement back to Chicago with his incredible speed and determination, becoming the youngest MVP in NBA history. The Bulls played with passion and toughness, always giving fans hope and something to believe in.
Although they made a great impact, unfortunately they never made it past the Eastern Conference Finals. Fast forward to 2025 the Chicago Bulls have demonstrated great potential starting their season with six wins. The best start to a season since their championship run in 1996.
Charlie Shuldt, a student at MCHS has been loyal to the team from a young age.
“I’ve been a Bulls fan since Derek Rose was on the team. I was young, but I really liked Rose,” Schuldt says, “and then I started to watch Michael Jordan clips and that’s what really kept me loyal to the team because of just their whole backstory.”
The Bulls have come far. After years of many ups and down they have shown so much growth.
Starting the season eight to six, Chicago’s offense has looked sharp, putting up over 110 points a night. Josh Giddey has fans shocked. He got 29 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and 12 assists for the Chicago bulls including a clutch pass to Nikola Vucevic with only three seconds left of the game against Philadelphia 76ers. Matas Buzelis has also turned heads, scoring 21 points against the Detroit Pistons and showing incredible defense.
Adam Anwar, also a student at MCHS got the chance to go watch the Chicago Bulls live last season.
“I was live at the Bulls arena, and they were playing against the Lakers. LeBron was playing, and a player on the Lakers named Austin Reaves,” Anwar says. “He got a layup, like a really good one. We were down two, somewhere around there. Only three seconds left and it was three, two, one and last second Josh Ginney shot a half quarter shot, and he banged it, the whole place was going crazy and drinks were pouring everywhere, and it was so cool.”
Overall, The Chicago Bulls are having fans on their toes. Bringing so much excitement and hope for what the season will continue to look like.
