A sophomore student walks into school, and gets greeted by Key Club at the South Entrance of Upper Campus. They have been looking for a club to be a part of, and consider joining. Later in AIM, they hear Key Club members on the announcements, further piquing their interest in becoming a member.
MCHS started, “Takeover Tuesday,” this school year to give all student organizations a direct platform to reach out to all students. Club and activity members greet students at the South entrance, do announcements, pick songs for musical minute and work with MCHS’s adjusted learning students.
“One of the biggest difficulties with running a student activity,” MCHS’s activities director, Mitchel Stengel says, “is that sometimes it’s really hard to get membership … we’ve seen a number of student organizations actually thriving since their, ‘Takeover Tuesday.’”
One of the goals of, “Takeover Tuesday,” is to give activity members a way to promote their club and make the decisions of how to do so. They get to choose things like how they welcome kids into school, what they hand out in the morning and what songs they play in musical minute.
“I felt like it was a good way to tell the whole school about our club and spread the message,” Key Club President, Kyra Hanneman says, “I think it definitely helped increase members.”
From an insider viewpoint, “Takeover Tuesday,” has proved to be helpful for clubs and activities.
Although the journey to student participation and school spirit is not an easy one, ideas and incentives like, “Takeover Tuesday,” are one step being made to help better our school.
