Taking the stage

Seven bands competed in the Student Council-sponsored Battle of the Bands on March 1, with one solo artist earning bragging rights as winner
On March 1, MCHS rocked out at the annual Battle of the Bands event in the Freshmen Campus theater. After many performances, judges crowned “Happy Accident” as the winning musician.

On Friday, March 1, 2024 Freshman Campus hosted Battle of the Bands. There were seven bands that played in the auditorium. The school staff team “The Staff Infection” played a couple of songs there too.

All bands got 15 minutes each to play songs. Gabriel Santos, Happy Accident, won the Battle of the Bands all by himself by around five points more than second place. All bands were judged by three judges. But what was it like preparing to compete at Battle Of The Bands? How did the bands determine what songs to play?

“The factors that we put in the design process was its difficulty of course and also the genre and how much we liked the music,” said freshman Maxwell Letizia.

So that means that this band that goes by the name of Velosity chose songs that they like and songs that they think would be easy to play.

“I’m pretty confident that we are gonna win,” said Letizia.

When asked how confident he and his band were that they were going to win he said that he was “pretty confident” but to his disappointment, they did not win.

“I practiced nonstop every night for two weeks with the specific setlist I had in mind but I knew how to play two of the songs beforehand,” said Santos.

Santos was very nervous to perform, off stage he was short of breath and shaking. Once he started performing on stage his nervousness went away.

“I just knew I wanted to compete,” said Santos. “I love performing more than anything, with a band or not, and the opportunity even to be on stage is something I cherished.”
