The Hall Pass | Speaker drama, MCC’s “Frankenstein” and a Smash Bros. tournament

In this episode of the Hall Pass, learn more about the House’s quest for a new speaker, MCC’s fall play and the Esports team’s upcoming tournament

The Hall Pass is a podcast that gives you the local, national and global headlines you need to hear in span of a single passing period. To listen to the podcast, press the play button above, or head to the Messenger’s Soundcloud page.

Two weeks ago, Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) became the first Speaker of the House to be voted out, which left the congress in need of a new Speaker. The House is trying to vote for Jim Jordan (C-OH) as the new speaker of the House, but after 2 rounds of voting, he has not gotten enough support from his fellow Republicans. Patrick McHenry (C-N.C.) is currently filling the role temporarily but does not have all the power as a normal speaker. The Speaker of the House decides what bills get to go to the house floor to vote on or not. The speaker is also second in line after the vice president to become president.

On Oct. 20 MCC is performing their own rendition of the play, Frankenstein at the black box theater. There will be performances on Halloween at 7 p.m, and Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. Tickets will cost $15 for non students, and $10 for students.

McHenry Esports is hosting a Super Smash Bros. tournament on Oct. 23 in room 283 at MCHS Upper Campus. Registration is open until Oct. 20 for $5. The winners will be able to smash pumpkins. Email Mr. Aguilar for more details.
