MCHS is holding a Cozy Coffeehouse event on Nov. 20 in the Upper Campus cafeteria for students and adults.
The Cozy Coffeehouse is a talent show event that MCHS holds each year at the Upper Campus. Students sing, play instruments, perform with a band and read poetry. The admission fee is $5 for performers and guests.
“It’s really cool getting to see everybody perform,” says Taylor Carpenter, a junior at MCHS. “It’s fun to see them sing what they want to sing and work on something that they want to do, not just something you have to play.”
This open mic event is an opportunity for students at MCHS to show off their talents and hard work.
Carpenter says, “It gives people a way to express themselves where they might not otherwise be able to.”
The Cozy Coffeehouse is an event held by Tri-M, MCHS’s music honors society. The open-mic night has been around for years at MCHS, and every year students have come and performed their songs and poems.
According to the National Association for Music Education, Tri-M has more than 84,000 students in grades 6-12.
“Music isn’t really valued that much in our school,” says Carpenter, “or fine arts in general.”
Events like this give the school and the students a good opportunity to show off skills and gives them time to connect with each other in different ways.
