The varsity basketball team’s coaches are preparing for their upcoming tryouts on Nov. 10 at the Upper Campus main gym.
Last year’s team shared their first conference title with Crystal Lake South, but fell short of a Regional championship with a loss to Warren Township and immediately started to prepare for next season.
Although MCHS lost six seniors last year, they still feel confident about winning another conference title
“I think we have a good shot at conference this year,” senior varsity basketball player Blake Renfro says.
Last season was their first ever fox valley conference title, which they won on Feb. 21 2025 with a 47-44 win over Huntley.
“I feel confident because of all the work we as a team have put in over the summer and the off season,” junior Nate Osel says. “We’ve played many games and had open gyms that have prepared us well.”
With ending the season last year being 26-7 under the coaching of Raymond Card, they are expected to keep this trend with a winning record.
“I have the same expectation every year,” Card says. “The standard is to be as good as you can be, kids start running into trouble when they start to worry about winning and losing.”
With this mindset many players have individually put in work over the off season focusing on growth, discipline, and maintaining a high standard for this upcoming basketball season.
“I’ve been working really hard every morning, every single night to increase my skills, both offensively and defensively, and being able to prepare us to have a pretty solid year,” senior varsity basketball player Adam Anwar says.
Together, all the guys display that dedication isn’t just showing up for the game, it’s helping build something deeper within the team.
“We’re all really connected,” Anwar says. “Were all one big family, this offseason really brought us together from an off court standpoint, being able to be friends, which also translates to the basketball court.”
