On Friday Feb. 20, the Upper Campus had a walkout against ICE. They walked out in sixth period and continued through seventh period, grouping up in the grass next to the school.
Recently a lot of schools have been having ICE protest walkouts. The Upper Campus participated in a walkout on Friday. Students protested from the beginning of sixth period to the end of seventh period. Also having some students return throughout eighth period.
“I felt that what was happening was unjust,” a student organizer, who preferred to stay anonymous, said, “and I came up with the walkout as a way to draw attention to it.”
“Students who are not present in class will receive an unexcused absence (class cut) for each period missed,” Jordan Deener, the junior dean at MCHS, said, “ and will face the appropriate consequences for missing class, and their parents or guardians will be notified.”

The person who organized the walkout said he got everyone together by using a google form and an instagram account to keep everyone updated.
Though the walkout was only supposed to last during sixth period, many students found themselves walking to green street and continued the protest there.
Throughout eighth period, administrators were down by the south entrance still scanning in students who participated in the walkout.
Deener expressed his concerns about the protest saying that, “students are missing academic minutes in the classroom and will be behind on their work.”
On Friday, Feb. 13 the Freshman Campus had their own walkout with 72 students attending, according to the administration.
During the Freshman Campus walkout, some students from Upper Campus walked to across town to participate in the protest as a whole school.
