MCHS is bringing back the Winter Formal on January 20th from 7-10pm at the Freshman Campus.

Tomorrow, MCHS will be hosting a winter formal dance at the Freshman Campus.

Doors will open around 6:30 p.m. and close around 8 p.m. for arrival. The dance will end at 10 p.m.

For the first time in many year, MCHS will be hosting a winter formal instead of a turnabout or MORP dance. This dance has been a project in the making for a while.

Polls came out to students in November 2022 to vote if the school wanted to have a winter formal or a more casual dance. The majority of students voted that a winter formal would be the better option. It took a lot of planning, but it is finally in action.

“Our Student Council students sent out a survey to all students Nov. of 2022,” says co-lead STUCO advisor, Stefanie Lukas. “An overwhelming majority of MCHS students wanted a Winter Formal over a more casual dance. It took a lot of planning and meetings with administrators and students.”

Decorations and planning have been entirely up to the student council instead of an outside company like it is for Homecoming.

“We do not have an outside company doing decorations or snacks like we do at Homecoming,” says Lukas. “We have ordered our own decorations that we will set up on Saturday so that part has been a lot of work.”

Lukas says the dance will be hosted at the Freshman Campus because it was STUCO’s goal was to make the freshman feel more included.

“We wanted to have a dance hosted at Freshman Campus so that Freshmen could feel like their school is represented,” said Lukas. “We are aware that the freshmen can feel disengaged with so many events at Upper Campus so we wanted to utilize the space to host this fun event!”

Tickets will not be sold at the door, so to have access students need to have a pre-paid ticket that was sold Dec. 19 – Jan. 12.

Guests will have a different line to go through and will have to have a guest ticket with their information, along with who brought them.

There will be a mocktail hour that will take place before the dance, and it will give students a chance to visit the photo booth, where they will get a souvenir strip for their participation.
