MCHS’s students, staff, and alumni will celebrate this year’s Homecoming next week.
This year’s Homecoming dance will have the theme “Lights, Camera, Action”, which was chosen by the current seniors in the student council.
“Current seniors […] in Student Council started meeting with a company that does our homecoming,” said math teacher and student council advisor, Stefanie Lukas. “They gave us a few options for different types of things that we could do. They ended up picking ‘Lights, Camera, Action’, they liked the Hollywood glam theme with a red carpet.”
Paint the Town is from Sept. 21 to Sept. 23. A lot of clubs are participating in painting the small businesses of McHenry.
“Paint the Town is one of McHenry’s oldest traditions,” stated Mitchell Stengal, the student activities director and teacher. “Clubs, activities, and sports all choose businesses in the McHenry area to paint based on that year’s theme.”

“The parade is on Sunday at 1 p.m. with a rally at Veterans Park before and after the parade,” said Stengal. “We will have food trucks and many performances from MCHS groups […], including our Distinguished Alumni, football team, and a number of clubs and activities. The Homecoming Court will also be featured, and our new Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned.”
Homecoming week will also include a spirit week with new daily dress up days such as “BBQ Dad versus Soccer Mom,” “Rhyme without a Reason,” and “Gold Rush.”
“We wanted to try to do a new one like ‘Rhyme without a Reason,’” says Lukas, ”So just trying to balance things that we know that people like to participate in with some new ideas and not just doing the same spirit days every year.”
