Warrior Student Media is McHenry High School's student-run media organization and part of the English department's communications pathway.

Three publications make up Warrior Student Media, including THE WARRIOR WEEKLY, the school's weekly news broadcast; THE MCHENRY MESSENGER, the school's student newspaper updated daily; and THE WARRIOR, the annual student yearbook. In the past decade, McHenry High School's publications have earned state and national recognition, and have produced some of the best student journalists in the state. You can earn more about each publication using the links on this page.

McHenry High School's communications pathway is comprised of four courses. Students are encouraged to begin taking the semester-long Introduction to Journalism class, where they will learn the basics of journalistic principles and ethics, reporting and interviewing, writing stories, and constructing multimedia story packages. Students can then choose one of the school's for publications classes—Broadcast Journalism, Newspaper, or Yearbook—where they will play a role in that publication's production. Students can continue to take publications year after year until they graduate.

The communications pathway at McHenry High School prepares students for not only a career in journalism, but also nurtures their interest in publishing, photography, illustration, graphic design, sound editing and design, video production, and public speaking. In publications classes, students also develop leadership skills, interpersonal skills, organization skills, ethical judgement, and responsibility. Perhaps most importantly, student publications empower students to exercise their First Amendment rights and use their voice.
