Senior Gaby Grasser steps into the court. Her shoes squeak as she runs across the court, the ball dribbling below her feet. She takes a deep breath as she shoots the ball over her head into the hoops. The crowd cheers as her teammates stand up in enjoyment.
As the ground becomes covered in snow, and the days become shorter; MCHS girls basketball season begins. A few months ago, these girls began their training each and every day to become a great team.
The team has been working to build their connection and strength as a team. The girls work to encourage each other and stay positive.
“We have a really good group, I feel like our group of girls is really close. They all root for each other and push each other in practice,” says freshman team coach Cody Fruend.
The girls enjoy the memories they make both on and off the court as an MCHS athlete.
“My favorite part of the season is getting to see some of my favorite coaches after school, and also the tournaments we get to participate in,” said senior Avery Stinger.
This season has begun on a rocky note for this team. This year’s varsity team has had to overcome their recent losses. The team has been focusing on how to bounce back after a loss and work to win the next one.
“This season we’ve had to overcome communication errors, on and off the court, but we are working on that always. I hope the season stays at a high point, and that we don’t let the losses get to us,” says senior Gaby Grasser.
While they may get stuck in ruts at times, the team always works to push out if and become better every day.
“The message after losing is simple: take the positives and build on them and take the negatives and work on correcting them. No one person is more important than anyone else and everyone must work on getting better at their role to help the team,” said Varsity coach John Lunkenheimer.
This team works hard each and every day to become better, play harder and push one another to success
