Imagine you are at your child’s high school football game, rooting for them to win their semi-final game. Your two sons are both on the field, when you notice that they are both extremely distracted. All of a sudden you hear chants from the opposing team’s student section, targeting you. Well that happened to Head Coach of the Chicago Bears, Matt Nagy, at his two sons, Brayden and Tate Nagy, semifinal game against Cary-Grove.

Matt Nagy was originally hired onto the Bears as head coach to win and to shape starting quarterback Mitchell Tribiski. During his first season on the Bears, they went 12-4, won the NFC north division, and Nagy won head coach of the year. Since then, the Bears have let go of Tribiski and the Bears have gone 24-20 so far including this year. Compared to the first season with Nagy, their seasons prior have done worse. Many fans would like to have Nagy fired since he is no longer making forward progress for the bears. Some fans have taken it too far, extending Nagy’s professional career into his personal life.

It is unnecessary behavior by fans to chant outside of the bears stadium towards firing Nagy. While chanting in other Chicago sports team’s stadiums is unnecessary too, bringing it to his sons’ football game is even more unnecessary. There is very little that it does when chanting against him especially when it comes to high school students. It is not effective, and in the end was just insulting, due to it being unnecessary.

When fans chant to fire Nagy at a Bears game is one thing, but when fans chant at his son’s high school football game, it has extended too far. Even though fans feel very strongly about firing Nagy, bringing it into his personal life and possibly his sons’ lives has gone too far. Coach Nagy should not have been bothered by his career, while trying to enjoy his sons’ semifinal game. Doing this could have not only affected Nagy, but his sons’ concentration and memory of the game.

Playing in the semi-finals to win State is a huge deal to many highschool teams, and few teams get the chance every year. This was a very meaningful game for the Nagy family. The happy memory of the game was quickly tainted when the team began chanting against their father. Even though their father handled it well and addressed the situation, they will always have the memory of the chants.

Some fans believe that chanting against Nagy will show a lack of support for him being head coach. Although this is true, it has every little effect when it is outside major sporting events. Chanting at a highschool football game was viewed more as wrong and personally against Nagy and his family rather than showing their lack of support for Nagy as head coach to the Bears.

These chants had many negative effects, without having any positive effects. Before following along with chants or starting a chant against someone, fans should think on how their behavior may affect the person and their family.
