Fall Play returns to Freshman Campus | Warrior Weekly 11.1.22

The Drama Club is performing the “Merry Wives of Windsor” in the newly renovated theater

Every year, MCHS Students and Staff come together to create a Fall Play for the community to enjoy. This fall, they’ll be performing the Merry Wives of Windsor, a play from Shakespearean times that they’ve adapted to fit the 1960s time period.

Do not let yourself be fooled by the title, “Merry Wives of Windsor” for not all things will remain ‘merry’ between the wives throughout the entire play. As explained by Director Andrew Hillier, “The main story is Falstaff who thinks he can seduce two women because he wants to get their money because he’s down on his luck”. Falstaff thinks he is sneaky going for the Merchant’s money through seducing their wives, but his plan quickly falls as the roles switch in who is being sneaky.

Over the summer, the theater at the Freshman Campus was renovated to improve the experience of shows. A new stage and lighting systems were added, and most importantly, the walls were painted black. Hillier explains, “Now we have these black walls to really immerse the audience and make these actors look like stars.”

Because of the transition from East Campus to Freshman Campus, the Freshman Campus hasn’t hosted a show in years. Some students who attended East Campus never got the opportunity to act there, such as Junior Kadin Henige. “It feels kind of special because I went here two years ago and then they renovated it…it’s really nice to be back,” he confessed.

Opening night is Thursday, November 3rd, at 7 P.M., and will be followed by shows on November 4 and 5. Tickets can be purchased by scanning a QR code located in either building or by contacting a cast member.
