The 2023 movie review is in and there was lots of fan favorites and memorable messages within the top picked movies.

2023 was a year of monumental movie making. Many believe that this is another Renaissance after years of exceptional movies. With a high bar set by 2023 movies, the new year has big ideas and expectations for movies going forward.

“Oppenheimer:”

During the film, the audience witnesses a myriad of scenes that leave them in complete awe. The tense moments are intense enough to make almost every person in the theater squirm nervously in their seats. It is the most powerful cinematic experience that has been witnessed in recent times, reminding viewers of the true potential of movies to evoke emotions. It is safe to say that this particular movie stands out as one of the most unforgettable movies in cinematic history.

“Barbie:”

The film delves into the complex world of Barbie, aiming to uncover deeper meanings behind this cultural phenomenon and exploring themes of femininity. By presenting the Barbie doll as a feminist symbol, the movie challenges societal perceptions of femininity and girlhood in a thought-provoking way. The movie features an unforgettable soundtrack including songs like “Dance the Night” and “I’m Just Ken” and delivers an emotional and powerful message to all viewers.

“Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse:”

The animation in this movie is truly breathtaking. The characters are beautifully designed, with intricate and compelling backstories that add depth to the story. The fight scenes are nothing short of amazing, and Gwen’s journey is especially captivating. Overall, the movie is stunning and has viewers hooked from beginning to end. It comes as no surprise that the hype around it was completely justified. It is a masterpiece that transcends genres – a movie that will appeal to all ages. It certainly sets a high bar for the third installment in the franchise, set to be released in the future.

“Asteroid City:”

Wes Anderson’s latest film delivers his signature retro sci-fi vibes, complete with a UFO/alien sighting in a 1950s desert town. As always, Anderson showcases his creative vision, making this a must-see for his fans. While the large ensemble cast generally performs well, their actions feel somewhat detached from the plot, making it difficult to connect with their characters. Despite this, the film’s exceptional craftsmanship, including outstanding production design, cinematography, costume design, and editing, is a testament to Anderson’s high standards and adds to the overall viewing experience.

“Elemental:”

The reasons for “Elemental’s” immense popularity remain somewhat elusive. Nevertheless, this cinematic gem boasts all the signature qualities that comprise an exceptional Pixar film. From its captivating high-level premise, which could only be executed via cutting-edge computer animation, to its poignant exploration of ethnic tensions and the importance of tolerance, this movie delivers. It strikes a perfect balance between humor that appeals to all ages and a well-crafted plot that unfolds at precisely the right pace. In true Pixar fashion, “Elemental” features breathtaking visuals and mind-blowing animation, characterized by vivid hues and seamless transitions.

“John Wick: Chapter 4:”

The precision displayed in the stunt choreography of “John Wick: Chapter 4” is truly impressive. The filmmakers have cleverly incorporated a variety of kills, weapon types, locations, and teamwork to create an enthralling experience for audiences. This action-packed film is guaranteed to keep viewers on the edge of their seats, and in my opinion, the runtime passes by in a flash. Be sure not to miss the end credits scene – it is a must-see.

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3:”

The personal relationship between the guardians and their guardians is dark, heartbreaking, and beautiful. This is the most emotionally satisfying experience one could have with the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in a long time. It is not just a final chapter of a story, but also a goodbye to a set of characters and films that have changed the landscape of superhero movies. They have not only altered the tone and vibe of these films, but also proved that weird and unknown characters with strange stories can be highlighted in these movies.
