Seniors gathered before dawn on the first day of school to celebrate their final year of high school together

On Aug. 15, 135 seniors joined MCHS Principal Dr. Jeff Prickett to watch the sunrise and kick off the school year for seniors at the Upper Campus soccer fields.

Prickett, who started the Senior Sunrise tradition last year, gave a speech to encourage kindness and compassion in seniors going into their last school year.

“Senior Sunrise was created as a way to kick off the school year for seniors,” he says. “We brought in the year this morning”

Prickett has planned another Senior Sunset at the end of the school year to celebrate seniors.

Kennedy Tetour is a veteran of the McHenry Messenger and in her first year as a part of the Warrior Weekly. She enjoys music, writing, and is the Messenger's resident movie fanatic. Kennedy is looking forward to her senior year and can't wait to change and grow along with the newspaper and it's staff this year.
