Groovy Movies: Because I’m a wild animal
Wes Anderson’s 2009 stop-motion imagining of “Fantastic Mr. Fox” features his signature style—and a lot of heart

“Fantastic Mr. Fox” is a star studded film that features huge names such as Bill Murray, George Clooney, Maryl Streep, and director Wes Anderson. And if Anderson’s name isn’t a good enough reason to watch the film, the overarching themes of community and courage will definitely draw you in and make you feel warm and fuzzy on the inside.
The film not only features an impressive cast, but it also has incredible visuals especially considering it’s a kids movie that was released in 2009. Stop motion animation allows the film to portray animals in a soft and furry way, and the chromatic orange tint to the film helps to create a true autumn spirit. Not to mention that there is not a static moment in the entire film. There is always movement and there is always excitement.
Although “Fantastic Mr. Fox” does have some really sweet moments, it’s not all lovey dovey family nonsense like many holiday movies turn out to be. The movie also features a few high stakes heists and an epic rescue mission, so no one will be falling asleep before the end of this movie.
Another huge factor in what makes this movie great is the soundtrack. “Fantastic Mr Fox’s” soundtrack has an overall folky sound to it that fits the vibe of the film perfectly. It even features a song that happened to go viral on TikTok titled “Mr. Fox in the Fields” which is a soft and plucky instrumental piece that warms your soul. The soundtrack also includes music from The Beach Boys and The Rolling Stones, so it has an energetic vintage feel to it as well.
“Fantastic Mr. Fox” is the perfect movie for you and your family to watch on Thanksgiving due to the strong presence of the holiday throughout the film, and the lesson that while whatever you have right now may not seem like a lot, it certainly is all you need.
Fantastic Mr. Fox is available for your viewing pleasure on Disney+ or it’s available to rent on Youtube or Amazon Prime Video.
