On Aug. 17, the third day of the 2022-2023 school year, students and staff from both campuses came together for the first time ever for a spirit rally. Freshmen were bussed over to the Upper Campus to celebrate the start of the new school year with upperclassmen.

During the rally, students competed in a rock-paper-scissors tournament. Speaker Phil “PC” Campbell spoke to students at the rally about positivity in their lives, encouraging students to inspire the hopeful and empower the dreamers. The rally ended with a spirit shout competition between classes, which the senior class won.

Curtis Menke, MCHS’s college and career counselor, explains that, because of the disruption that COVID-19 has caused within the past few years, students have needed something to connect them to their school again. “We’ve noticed that students just love being together,” he says, “and having a rally to be together and celebrate together is helping with community building.”

MCHS is planning more spirit rallies in the future to further build the community between both campuses and bring all students and staff together.
